Cooperation MTA SpA -GAIA Energia e Servizi srl: the attention to Energy saving.
GAIA Energia e Servizi srl since ‘80 is a point of reference for all the companies that want to pursue a policy of energy saving. Gaia’s strength is in design, realization and management of CHP (Combined Heat and Power) installations. Inside the Consip Energy contract between Elyo Italia and the Zooprofilattico institute of Umbria and Marche (Italian regions), GAIA Energia and Servizi srl is in charge for the regeneration of the air conditioning plan in Perugia institute and of it’s maintenance for 5 years.The regeneration is focused on energy saving.
Inside this context Gaia Energia e Servizi srl and MTA SpA have cooperated to find the best solution to satisfy customer needs.

Last June one MTA chiller has been installed inside the Institute. The chiller, model ARIES tech 140 SN, air-cooled with SCROLL compressors, R410, in low-noise version with 300 kW of cooling power, this new chiller has replaced an old chiller with R22 refrigerant gas.
Thanks to the new chiller the system has been aligned to the new European regulations on gas destructives for the ozone; the new chiller will allow a great energy saving and will satisfy the whole demand cooling capacity for almost the entire season.
However the energy efficiency isn’t the only positive aspect. The chiller is installed in a research institute so it is necessary to guarantee a certain noise level. |

So the installed chiller is the SN version, i.e. the LOW NOISE version and it uses fans with reduced speed (700 rpm) and compressors are housed in a metal compartment insulated with a sound absorbing layer of flexible open-cell expanded polyurethane.
To connect the new chiller to the existing system (there are 2 other smaller chiller) the institute has provided to insert some collectors.
In this way the ARIES tech 140 SN with a cooling capacity higher then the old chiller can work alone for many time during the season with the other 2 old chillers off and with a very high energy Efficiency Ratio. During the period of maximum thermal load the new chiller will work together with the two other.

It is now very important to remember that an air conditioning chiller works only for a short period during the season at the maximum capacity because the thermal load is often variable. On the other hand for the great part of the season it will work at the 75, 50 and 25% of capacity.
The European Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (ESEER) expresses the real efficiency of the chiller during the entire operating season because it is the average weighted efficiency of a chiller destined to air conditioning. The ESEER index for ARIES tech 140 SN is 4,24.
This means approximately that during an entire season of operation 1 kWh of electrical power is required on average to remove 4,24 kWh of heat energy from the air conditioned spaces.
